But the Daily Mail claims the offer falls short of Fellaini's demands, with his advisers locked in talks with the club.

The towering playmaker, 29, is entering the final year of his contract and would like a longer deal.

But United's policy with players over 30 is to stick to rolling contracts.

Mourinho handed Fellaini his first league start in the 4-0 demolition of former club Everton at the weekend after Paul Pogba was ruled out with injury.

The Special One blocked a move to Galatasaray this summer after the Turkish giants agreed terms with the Belgian international following Nemanja Matic's arrival.

Fellaini - who joined United from Everton in a £27.5million deal in 2013 - is free to speak to foreign clubs from January.

Several clubs in Turkey and Italy are believed to be interested in a free transfer, with Gala set to launch another bid.

But with Pogba set to be sidelined for another two weeks at least due to his hamstring injury, Fellaini could stake a claim for an improved offer from United.

The Red Devils take on Burton tomorrow before a trip to Southampton on Saturday and CSKA Moscow on September 27.
