It was a physical encounter between the two sides as the Steelmen came out on top thanks to a double from hitman Louis Moult.

Cardoso gave a message to the Gers faithful on his Twitter post.

He said: "We were not able to meet our goal of reaching the final, time to see what we did wrong and work even harder to reach the other objectives.

"Thank u for all the support messages, I am fine just a broken nose. We will be back more stronger on Wednesday."

Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha was enraged that ref Steven McLean did not see the incident and was sent to the stands with 20 minutes left to play.

He said: “The question was not with the referee, the question was when I saw Fabio’s nose. From the touchline I couldn’t see what happened.
