The retired Danish shot-stopper has suggested a showdown between the two Premier League legends
PETER SCHMEICHEL has called out fellow Manchester United veteran Rio Ferdinand.
The retired goalkeeper has decided to step into the ring - 14 years after hanging up his boots.
The Danish star uploaded a video of himself practising on the pads to his Twitter page.
And he captioned the post: 'Maybe @rioferdy5 we meet some day'.
Throughout his playing career Schmeichel was renowned for his intimidating physique - standing at 6"3' and weighing almost 16 stone.
Since retiring, the 53-year-old has also joined the Sky Sports football analyst panel.
Rio Ferdinand shocked the sporting world after he called a surprise press conference stating his intentions to become a professional fighter.
He has partnered with betting company Betfair and will be coached by Team GB trainer Richie Woodhall.

Wycombe's heavyweight hitman Adebayo Akinfenwa has also stated that he is willing to 'take out' Rio Ferdinand in the ring.
Schmeichel hit the headlines in 1998 after getting himself into a drink-fuelled fight with Reds skipper Roy Keane.

The two locked horns during a pre-season tour of Asia and Keane ended up headbutting the Danish goalkeeper.
In his autobiography, Keane said: "He said 'I've had enough of you, it's time we sorted this out'. So I said 'Okay' and we had a fight.
"There was a lot of noise - Peter's a big lad."
