Schalke make last-ditch attempt to keep Leon Goretzka away from Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool
The 22-year-old German international has attracted a wide range of interest after impressing in the Bundesliga
SCHALKE'S sporting director has declared that the club are doing all they can to keep hold of midfield ace Leon Goretzka.
The Bundesliga side have made the 22-year-old a huge offer in a bid to deter interest from other clubs.
The 22-year-old has attracted a wide range of interest following a stellar season in the Bundesliga.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all indicated their interest.
However, sporting director Christian Heidel is hopeful that the club can tie down the German ace with a new contract.
He told Sky Deutschland: "We are convinced that we have to have him stay here without putting pressure.
"We are trying to convince him, even in the economic aspect.
"We've made the most of possible efforts, we cannot do more."
The midfielder shot to prominence at the Veltins-Arena last term, making 41 appearances and scoring eight times.
Goretzka's contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he will be free to talk with new clubs in January.
Schalke shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen believes that his international team-mate is destined for the very top of world football.
He told Revier Sport: "Leon is a fantastic player. I like him as a footballer and as a man.
"He has outstanding football qualities. I have to say that he could play for one of the top European clubs.
"I don't know who will get him in the end - maybe he stays with Schalke and then you can only congratulate the club."
