TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR have some serious talent coming through the ranks.

Here SunSport checks on the progress of right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, who shares a very similar name to the man already occupying the role for Spurs.

Who are ya?

Somehow the brilliant 20-year-old Tottenham academy right-back is no relation to the brilliant first-team right-back who recently moved to Man City with the same blistering pace, minus the Peters.

Versatile Walter-Peters has also started for Spurs youth teams on the other flank at left-back.

Style of play

The teenager has all the guile of a No 10 but also the pace of a seriously nippy winger.

Like a number of the Spurs starlets he isn’t tall but he is stocky and bullish when his skill alone won’t get him past a man.

As a full-back he is startling similar to his namesake and Danny Rose on the opposite side of the Spurs defence but he is even more impressive in attacking positions.

What’s the deal?

In December 2015 Walker-Peters was crowned the Premier League’s under-21 player of the month. And in a dizzying month - that presumably also included getting his stocking stuffed – he signed a new deal that keeps him at White Hart Lane until 2018.

Room to improve

His decision making will naturally improve with more games and when he dashes down the wing he’s usually spoilt for choice, over whether to shoot or cross, but perhaps working with a top-level striker will make that decision easier.

Verdict

His versatility is excellent and is a product of Tottenham’s ethos. Root and branch, through the club and age groups, players are taught and expected to be more complete footballers, capable of adapting to a range of positions that could change over a season or a half.

All eyes being on Marcus Edwards – and his headline-grabbing Mini-Messi nickname – might even be doing Walker-Peters a favour as it takes the attention away from him. He also has a handful of brilliant Spurs full-backs to train with and learn from. Remember the name, again.
