Jose Mourinho thinks Manchester United need two transfer windows to fix broken squad

The Special One insist United's first team squad still needs lots of work despite spending £150million last summer

JOSE MOURINHO says Manchester United need to dip into their pockets in the next two transfer windows to fix their broken squad.

The Red Devils were the second highest spenders in the Premier League last summer behind Manchester City, spending a grand total of £150million.

But the Special One still sees flaws in his squad despite drafting in Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Having been in the hot seat at Old Trafford for five months, Mourinho wants the club to sign players with the technical and mental characteristics to cope at a club the size of Manchester United.

A source close to Mourinho told Record Sport Online: "We need quality players, but you can not do it in one to two transfer windows.

"You cannot buy four or five players in one go of the level that we need."

This comes after Mourinho publicly criticised Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling after they refused to play for United against Swansea.

But Mourinho was made to look rather silly after it became apparent only days later Smalling had broken his toe.

Summer signing Ibrahimovic, who arrived on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, has also admitted there are weaknesses in the first team at United.

He said: "The team I signed for this summer is not as strong as the one I left, but when Mourinho called the decision was easy."
