But the Portuguese boss wants an easier job once his time at Manchester United comes to an end.

Mourinho made it no secret that he wants to manage an international side one day and came very close to accepting the England job in 2007 following the sacking of Steve McClaren.

And when asked whether he would consider managing the Samba stars, Mourinho told ESPN Brazil: "I think following Manchester United I need an easier job than Manchester United.

"Coaching the Brazilian team should be more difficult. Obviously it would be exciting.

"Any coach wants to work with the best clubs and with the best.

"The Brazilian team is obviously a leader of success, obviously with talent, no matter the generation, talent always appears.

Following in Phil Scorlari's footsteps

If Jose Mourinho does complete a shock move to Brazil, he will be just the second Premier League manager to take charge of the Samba stars.

Ex-Chelsea boss Phil Scolari managed Chelsea for one year in 2008 but took charge of the Brazil national side for a second time in 2012.

It was there where the host nation was humiliated 7-1 by Germany at the 2014 World Cup as Brazil finished fourth.

"But I have to confess that it must be difficult. In every Brazilian there's a coach, in every journalist there is a better coach than the coach.

"I think it must be a difficult country to work for, but also a passionate one."

Brazil have already booked their place at the 2018 World Cup having picked up ten wins from their opening 13 matches.
