Jose Mourinho says he doesn’t know extent of Ander Herrera injury as Manchester United midfielder lasts just five minutes against Real Madrid

JOSE MOURINHO will be hoping for good news after admitting he doesn't know the extent of Ander Herrera's injury.

The Spanish midfielder lasted just five minutes in the friendly against Real Madrid - coming off after a heavy tackle from Oscar Rodriguez.

Herrera had only come on at half-time but looked in some pain as he clutched his rib and hip area.

Rodriguez had bundled off Herrera off the ball with a heavy tackle in midfield.

Herrera attempted to carry on but looked in some pain and was immediately substituted.

United beat Real Madrid after one of the worst penalty shootouts ever in Santa Clara, California, as SEVEN out of 10 penalty takers missed their kicks.

And speaking after the game, a downbeat Mourinho was clearly hoping for good news.

He told MUTV: "I don't know [how bad it is].

"Ander had to come out after 10 minutes.

"It was painful... but sometimes painful does not mean too bad."

Mourinho lost Juan Mata in the last friendly against Real Salt Lake - although the injury is not too bad despite initial concerns.

Speaking last week, the Special One said that Mata's injury would only be "a few days, a week probably."

But the ankle problem forced Mata into being rested for the game against Real.

United took the lead at Levi's Stadium through Jesse Lingard, who tapped in from close range after a truly brilliant run from Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman beat three defenders and cut back for Lingard to score.

United were in control but Mourinho will be disappointed with new boy Victor Lindelof.

The £31million defneder conceded an atrocious penalty, arriving way too late on Theo Hernandez.

The game ended 1-1 and went straight to penalties, but seven misses meant United took the glory after Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Daley Blind converted.
