Robbie Keane set for Indian Super League switch to link up with former Tottenham team-mate Teddy Sheringham
Ireland's all-time leading goalscorer is close to agreeing terms with Atletico de Kolkata
ROBBIE KEANE is set to join Indian Super League side Atletico de Kolkata.
SunSport has learnt that Keane, 37, spoke with club officials about a switch to Asia last week.
Ireland’s record goalscorer also has options in the Championship in England but would probably not be first-choice given the demands of the 46-game season.
The Indian Super League is a much shorter campaign with just 14 matches before play-offs.
Their season starts on October 1 with the final on December 18.
To sweeten the deal for Keane, Atletico de Kolkata are managed by his former Tottenham strike partner Teddy Sheringham.
Ex-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has also been linked with a swoop for his former goalscorer.
The experienced manager admitted this week that he “would not want to be a liar” and deny interest in the veteran hitman.
Keane played under Redknapp for Tottenham and Redknapp believes he has something to offer in the second tier.
Despite his age, the Blues chief is said to be confident in the out-of-contract ace's abilities and thinks he still has one big move left in him.
Keane's last spell in English football was a loan spell with Brum’s bitter rivals Aston Villa in 2012.
