Cameron Borthwick-Jackson set to leave Manchester United for loan spell at Leeds United
Young defender has failed to hit the heights with Jose Mourinho and was criticised over his fitness during while on loan at Wolves
CAMERON BORTHWICK-JACKSON is reportedly heading for Leeds United on loan.
The Manchester United defender has not been part of Jose Mourinho's pre-season plans.
And ESPN report that he is close to spending another spell in the Championship.
Borthwick-Jackson, 20, spent last season on loan at Wolves so knows the territory well.
But he was criticised by then Wolves boss Paul Lambert for falling short of fitness standards.
He said: “I think Cameron is falling short at the minute.
“He would have to show a lot more. He’s doing all right in training but there’s more he has to do.
“It’s a bit of lack of fitness as well, even though he’s played in the under-23s.
MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFER NEWS
"At this moment in time he needs more.”
From United boss Mourinho's point of view Leeds offer the ideal opportunity for him to gain more first-team experience.
He could even go straight into the squad for this weekend's Championship opener against Bolton.
Borthwick-Jackson broke into the United first-team under Louis van Gaal and made 14 appearances in 2015-16.
New Leeds coach Thomas Christiansen has been looking to bring in a defender to replace Charlie Taylor, who has joined Burnley.
Leeds only have two first team left backs at present and current first choice Gaetano Berardi is right-footed and better recognised as a right-back.
Tyler Denton, the other option, has featured only three times for the Whites with all three appearances coming in cup games.
