Hey big spenders

Chelsea have blown an incredible £1.7BILLION on players since start of Premier League – as top flight’s biggest and smallest spenders are revealed

Check out which sides have spent the most - and least - on new players since the current format's inception in 1992-93

PREMIER LEAGUE clubs have spent big this summer in a desperate bid to get their hands on the league title in 2017-18.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has already splashed over £200million this transfer window - mostly on his defence - to get over his first-ever trophyless season.

Jose Mourinho's new signings at Manchester United this summer on the other hand have seen him become the first manager to spend over £1BILLION in his career.

But which clubs have spent the most money in the Premier League's history?

Thanks to research from MyVoucherCodes.co.uk we can share the biggest - and smallest - spenders since the start of the 1992-93 season.

Incredibly, Chelsea top the list of big spenders by splashing a massive £1.7bn on transfers - thanks in no small part to Roman Abramovich's cash input back in 2003.

The Blues have parted with £1,715,242,236 on transfers - including this summer's £40m move for Tiemoue Bakayoko and £65m swoop for Alvaro Morata.

Fernando Torres' £50m move from Liverpool to Chelsea and Andriy Shevchenko's £30m move also added to the whopping tally, to go with Didier Drogba's mega-money move.

Manchester City's summer spending sends them into second place on £1.5bn - with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy two big-money outlays this window.

Manchester United come in third on £1.3bn - with Romelu Lukaku this summer's biggest outgoing at £75m and Nemanja Matic on £40m.

Liverpool - who spent big to bring in Mohamed Salah this summer - and Tottenham complete the top five on £1.3bn and £1.1bn respectively.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham complete the top ten ranging from £528m expenditure to £831m.

At the other end of the spectrum, Ipswich are the smallest spenders in Premier League history at just £42m spent.

Nottingham Forest, Wimbledon, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday have all spent less than £80m in their top flight careers.

Coventry, Charlton, Norwich, QPR and Wigan complete the top ten lowest spenders in Premier League history - all spending under £150m.
