Manchester United in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over new deal for Swedish striker as he continues recovery from knee injury

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is claiming they club have began negotiations over a short-term contract for the 35-year-old.

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC is negotiating a new contract with Manchester United, according to reports.

The Swedish superstar was immense for United last season as he bagged 28 goals before a knee injury cruelly cut short his season.

But now journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is claiming they club have began talks with Ibrahimovic, 35, over a short-term deal.

He said: Man United are working on Zlatan Ibrahimovic comeback. Talks ongoing.

It looked like Ibrahimovic's Old Trafford career was over after sustaining the injury in the Europa League clash against Anderlecht in April.

Jose Mourinho even took the step of splashing out £75million on Romelu Lukaku as a replacement.

But the Special One hinted that a new deal could be on the table for Zlatan.

The United chief said: “We spent big money on a striker because, with strikers, you either spend or you don’t get.

“We spent because of what happened to Zlatan and we cannot allow ourselves to be without an important, strong striker for the first six months of the season.”

AC Milan have been linked with a move for the former Barcelona striker when he recovers from his injury.

And sporting director Massimo Mirabelli refused to rule out a return to the San Siro for Zlatan.

The Italian said: “Ibrahimovic? In life, never say never. Maybe an old acquaintance of ours could come back.

“I don’t want to hint at Ibra, that’s not the case. We have our feet on the ground.

“We’ll evaluate the things that we have to do after August 15.”
