KEVIN WIMMER has emerged as a top target for Crystal Palace and Stoke City.

The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back could be allowed to go if Spurs land Ajax defender Davison Sanchez.

Both Palace and Stoke are keen to shore up their back lines with both clubs likely to more involved in the bottom half of  the Premier League table than the top.

There was talk of the Austrian possibly joining West Ham or Southampton.

But it seems Hammers' boss Slaven Bilic was more interested in playing Wimmer at left-back than in the centre of defence.

Said Wimmer: “I’d rather play in the centre.”

And of Southampton? The interest from Southampton was not really concrete,” he added.

“I would like to stay in Premier League, because there are other possibilities.”

But what about his fee?

Wimmer's representative, Jurgen Werner, recently revealed his client was a target for Bundesliga and Serie A clubs but the quoted fee in an inflated market - reportedly £20million - was too much.

Said Werner: "The top clubs of the Premier League all have more experienced players. John Stones [at Manchester City] is the only regular under 25."

"There was also interest from Germany or Italy but, because of the price, it is difficult for all clubs outside the Premier League.

"We have to wait and see what is happening on the English market."

Wimmer will always be remembered by north London derby fans for his own goal in his first start of last season.
