But if the worst happens and the Premier League club fail to beat Julian Nagelsmann's men over two legs, will they get in the Europa League? Here is all you need to know.

What do Liverpool need to do to qualify for the Champions League?

Liverpool must overcome Hoffenheim over two legs - either beating their opponents on aggregate, or winning on away goals.

If they do progress against the Germans, they are likely to be seeded for the draw which will pit them against the champions of one of Europe's lower ranked nations.

Will Liverpool qualify for the Europa League if they lose to Hoffenheim?

If the Reds fail to win over two legs, then they will then enter the Europa League group stages.

All 10 winners from the Champions League play-off round will join the 22 sides already qualified for Europe's premier competiton.

All defeated teams will enter the Europa League.

Liverpool finished as runners-up in the tournament in the 2015/16 season where they were defeated by Sevilla, losing 2-1.

If Liverpool enter the Champions League group stage and finish third in their group, they will then enter the Europa League for the Round of 32.

Chelsea in the 2012/13 campaign won the Europa League after finishing third in their group.

If Klopp's men finish first or second in their group in the Champions League, they will enter the Round of 16, but finishing in fourth will see them knocked out of Europe.
