Trent Alexander-Arnold: Jamie Carragher shares picture of the time Liverpool goalscorer against Hoffenheim was his mascot
The 18-year-old scored his first ever senior goal for Liverpool in tonight's Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim
TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD has gone from Liverpool mascot to Liverpool Champions League goalscorer.
And Jamie Carragher shared a photo tonight on Twitter of the time Alexander-Arnold, aged 10, led out the Reds in a league game against Leeds on September 22, 2009.
It was in honour of the now 18-year-old cracking home a sublime 25-yard free-kick against Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-off tonight.
In 2009 Jamie Carragher led Liverpool out as captain at Elland Road in the Carling Cup while holding Alexander-Arnold’s hand as they walked onto the pitch.
The 18-year-old was born in 1998 and was 10 when Liverpool travelled to play Leeds.
It turned out to be a tight game at Elland Road and the Reds edged the clash with a 1-0 win thanks to a clinical finish from David Ngog.
But tonight in Germany, Alexander-Arnold truly came of age - and it was doing a job Philippe Coutinho would normally.
But with the Brazilian left out of tonight's squad with rumours of a move to Barcelona imminent, Alexander-Arnold grabbed his chance in some style.
The full-back was also only playing as regular right-back Nathaniel Clyne is still injured.
But if he keeps pulling out performances like this, Clyne will have a tough job on his hands to budge Alexander-Arnold.
