'it's got even worse because of Carra'

Trent Alexander-Arnold is NOT the Liverpool youngster in photo with Jamie Carragher, according to fan who claims it is him with Reds legend

The right-back, 18, became Reds' man of the moment by stepping up to net a brilliant free-kick against Hoffenheim

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD confirmed his talent in the Champions League - but is apparently NOT the youngster pictured with Jamie Carragher in an old snap.

The right-back, 18, stepped up to net a brilliant free-kick against Hoffenheim that leaves Liverpool on the cusp of the Champions League group stage.

It prompted Reds legend Carragher to post a photo of himself with what he believed to be an even younger Alexander-Arnold.

The snap was taken in the tunnel at Elland Road ahead of a League Cup game between Leeds and Reds in September 2009 - a month before Alexander-Arnold's 11th birthday.

But Dion Simpson, now 19, says it is him in the picture and that he was amazed people thought it was Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds fan told the Echo: "I was a mascot back in 2009 against Leeds away, which is my hometown.

"And then last year Sky put some footage out on Sky Sports News which they thought was Trent, just before the recent EFL Cup game against Leeds last year.

"Then it went viral all last year - and now Carra has brought it back up again.

"I already seen the footage in 2009 because someone recorded me at the game.

"You could see me in the tunnel, but when they played it last year and thought it was Trent, it was pretty funny.

"And then the big Twitter accounts and newspaper accounts were posting it around on Facebook and Twitter, and it just kept going on for months.

"It's only just died down, but now it's gone even worse because Carra has posted the picture."

Alexander-Arnold was named Liverpool Young Player of the Season last year after coming through Jurgen Klopp's ranks to make 12 appearances.

With Nathniel Clyne out injured, Alexander-Arnold started the 3-3 draw with Watford on the Prem's opening day.

And his free-kick puts the Reds just one game away from the Champions League group stage as they take a 2-1 first-leg lead to Anfield next Wednesday.
