According to Sky Sports, the Northern Irish international has been on the radar of the Citizens for a number of weeks.

A source claims that City have already had a bid turned down by the Baggies for the ex-Red Devils ace.

However, they also claim that another source has told them that negotiations are underway, but they have yet to progress in an offer.

The 29-year-old was not included in the squad that beat Bournemouth 1-0 last Saturday, after sustaining an injury in pre-season.

He suffered a slight problem in the 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League Asia Trophy in the back end of July.

Last season Arsene Wenger attempted to lure away the defender to the Emirates, but failed in his attempts to bring him to Arsenal.

And now another Premier League giant are looking at acquiring his services, with Evans possibly featuring for the blue half of Manchester.

After making his debut for United in 2007, he went on to make 198 appearances, where he was part of the squad that won three top-flight titles.

He was sold to Tony Pulis' men ahead of the 2014/15 season, where he has since featured 65 times in all competitions.

However he could be set to return to the Champions League with City looking to shore up their rocky defence.

French international Eliaquim Mangala has failed to impress for the Citizens, and is set to make the switch to the San Siro to sign for Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal.

He spent last campaign on loan at Spanish side Valencia, but has failed to impress Guardiola since returning to England.

City succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against La Liga newcomers Girona on Tuesday in a friendly clash in Catalonia where Mangala started.
