Spurs had been knocking on the door of a game they dominated for huge periods at a time.

But with 81 minutes on the clock, Dele Alli won a free-kick after a foul from Tiemoue Bakayoko.

After Christian Eriksen whipped another inviting ball into the box, Batshuayi clipped a glancing header perfectly beyond a despairing Thibaut Courtois.

Earlier in the game Marcos Alonso had put Chelsea in the lead against the run of play with a perfect, curling free-kick.

His set-piece effort flew into the top corner over a well-placed wall to stun the Wembley crowd.

Fortunately for Chelsea, Alonso spared Batshuayi's blushes, as he scored with just two minutes left on the clock to silence the crowd in North London.
