Tottenham 1 Chelsea 2: Mauricio Pochettino refuses to blame famous Wembley jinx for devastating late defeat at new home

Marcos Alonso double shot down Spurs at home of English football but boss believes his side played well enough to win

MAURICIO POCHETTINO is adamant there is no Wembley hoodoo hanging over Tottenham after another frustrating afternoon at the stadium.

Michy Batshuayi looked to have cost Chelsea as headed into his own net but Marcos Alonso scored a dramatic late winner to go with his stunning free-kick opener.

The result means Poch has suffered four defeats in six games at the national stadium as Spurs boss - but the Argie tactician insists he is not concerned ahead of Burnley's visit next week.

He said: "I'm happy to lose in that way. I'm disappointed but not frustrated or upset.

"I think we deserved more, our performance was good we created the most chance but they were more clinical. It was very clear the idea of Chelsea was to contain us and counter attack.

"The Wembley effect is not the reason we lost the game. Wembley is one of the best places, if not the best, to play football.

"If you love football it was clear the size of the pitch wasn't the problem, we played better and created the chances to score.

"The most important thing is our performance, especially early in the season."

Opposite number Antonio Conte thanked his Chelsea stars for "suffering" to ensure the Blues rained on Tottenham's parade.

After a humbling 4-3 defeat at home to Burnley their Prem opener, Conte believes the Wembley atmosphere inspired his team to bounce back.

The Italian said: "It's a fantastic result, we suffered during the game but we were ready to try and score and always dangerous.

"The atmosphere was incredible, it's great to play at Wembley and the atmosphere can also help the opponent. Our fans were very important when we were suffering."
