Hoffenheim fan takes dental hygiene to a new level as he brushes his teeth in the stands at Anfield

Bundelisga club follower warmed up for Champions League clash with Liverpool by giving his gnashers a good going over

HOFFENHEIM didn't shine in their Champions League loss at Anfield - but one of their fans' teeth did!

For an away supporter amazingly thought cleaning his gnashers was just as important as cheering his team.

To be fair, this brush with fame is not entirely unheard of.

Back in 2009 an unidentified man was spotted with foam and a toothbrush in his mouth in the stands at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea hosted Manchester United.

The Hoffenheim follower took oral hygiene to the same on extreme Wednesday night as the Germans crashed out of the Champions League 6-3 on aggregate.

They went down 4-2 in the second leg of the qualifying round tie.

Stood at the front of the section, the German supporter could be seen brushing his teeth before the match kicked off whilst everyone around him raised their arms in unified support.

No one seemed the slightest bit interested... and if he brightened his smile it was soon dimmed as Liverpool went three-up after just 21 minutes through Emre Can (2) and Mohamed Salah.

At Stamford Bridge eight years ago the toothbrush addict - wearing sunglasses - was actually tracked down after the game.

BBC presenter DJ Spoony spotted him in action and appealed to the fan to phone in and explain his strange behaviour.

He asked on air: "Why has he got a toothbrush in the stadium?

"And more importantly, why is he brushing his teeth in the stadium?"

Co-host Gabriele Marcotti answered jokingly: "Dental hygiene.

"Every time you eat something, you should brush your teeth afterwards.

"You were taught that, right? You should be flossing too, I would add."

Spoony went on: "So you're in the football stadium, you've had your pie, you brush your teeth. I mean where do you rinse, or gargle?"

The fan said he had no time to brush his teeth before setting off for the game and was wearing dark glasses because his ex-girlfriend was there and he is "a ladies' man".

Skipper John Terry gave Chelsea a 1-0 victory.
