Arsenal blow as Arsene Wenger reveals Monaco have put the block on Thomas Lemar moving to the Emirates

French club finally pull up the drawbridge after losing so many of the stars that brought them Championship glory

THOMAS LEMAR will NOT be joining Arsenal.

Boss Arsene Wenger gave the lowdown on the long-winded summer transfer saga involving the Gunners and the Monaco striker when he said:

"It’s dead because Monaco don’t  want to sell.

"Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho... they have lost already Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko.

"So Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door."

The news will come as great disappointment to Arsenal fans, not to mention Wenger himself.

The Gunners’ killer instinct in the final third was sadly lacking in the 1-0 loss at Stoke City last weekend with clear-cut opportunities also proving difficult to find.

Wenger says otherwise, but he is surely staring down at the prospect of losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City.

And £45million-rated Lemar would have greatly improved his situation.

SUN BETS have come flying out of the traps... and gone top price for each English club to win the Champions League.

The French international scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.

And Lemar already has an assist under his belt this season, with Leonardo Jardim’s side winning their opening three matches of the campaign.

Monaco’s loss would be Arsenal’s gain as his pace and ability from the wide area would offer Arsenal a different threat.

The Gunners are not renowned for their crossing ability from the flanks, preferring to play through the defensive lines of their opponents.
