Manchester City star Sergio Aguero in the clear after Bournemouth steward withdraws statement that he was assaulted

SERGIO AGUERO is in the clear after a Bournemouth steward alleged to have been assaulted by the Manchester City star.

It all happened after Raheem Sterling scored in the SEVENTH minute of injury-time and got sent off after picking up a second booking for celebrating with fans who had run on to the pitch in crazy scenes at the Vitality Stadium.

Aguero and Benjamin Mendy were seen arguing with stewards and police.

A Bournemouth spokesman this afternoon confirmed to SunSport: "An allegation has been made by a steward that he was assaulted by Sergio Aguero and the Police have taken a statement."

But the club issued another statement later this evening saying that "no assault took place".

The statement read: "AFC Bournemouth are aware of an alleged incident which occurred following Manchester City’s second goal at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

"The club have been advised that due to a misunderstanding, an earlier statement alleging assault has been withdrawn and no assault took place.

"AFC Bournemouth recognises that stewards and police were carrying out their duties in preventing encroachment onto the pitch, with the safety of players and supporters in mind."

City sources say the club have seen footage of the alleged incident and are confident Aguero will not be charged.

Aguero tweeted: "On this story about their steward, I did not hit anyone, this allegation is false, and the tv pictures prove it."

The Argentine came on as a second-half sub as City had to fight back from Charlie Daniels’ 14th-minute opener for Bournemouth.

Gabriel Jesus’ levelled seven-minutes later then Sterling’s dramatic late winner arrived to spark mayhem.

Chaotic scenes followed as referee Dean had to wait more nearly three minutes to restart the game with even the whole City bench running on to the pitch to celebrate.

City boss Guardiola said: "I was happy apart from the first ten or 12 minutes up to the Daniels goal which was unbelievable.

"They were better. We played with one striker today to have more players with the chance to keep the ball like David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.

But in that period we missed a lot of balls.

"After the Daniels goal we played quite well in the first half and we scored one and could have scored another.

"Be started a bit slowly in the second half but we controlled until our mistake in the build-up when we went right instead of left and lost the ball.

"But after that we tried to attack with 11 players defending and long ball to King with players running in behind."

Aguero later denied the assault had taken place in a Twitter post.
