Leicester’s Jonny Evans bid worth £23million rejected by West Brom as Manchester City look to land ace before deadline day

Baggies star targeted by Craig Shakespeare in fresh move despite reaffirming his commitment to Tony Pulis at weekend

LEICESTER have reportedly made a £23million bid for Manchester City target Jonny Evans.

But BBC Sport claims West Brom have turned down the offer, which they say is below their valuation of the player.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare has returned with a second bid for the centre-back after seeing an offer turned down earlier in the transfer window.

West Brom are reluctant to sell Evans this summer after Tony Pulis made him the new club captain in July.

But big-spenders Manchester City are also highly interested and the Baggies may be forced into accepting an offer too good to turn down before Thursday’s deadline.

Evans is yet to feature this season and was not in the squad for Sunday’s 1-1 with Stoke.

But writing in the match-day programme, Evans claimed he remains fully committed to West Brom unless the club take the decision to flog him.

The ex-Manchester United defender said: “Obviously, there’s been a bit of speculation around my future here but from my point of view, it’s very simple.

“All I’ve been concentrating on is getting fit and getting back out on the pitch and doing my bit for the team.

“Every window there’s always speculation over transfers but as players these things are often out of your control and it’s best not to think about it too much.

“Until anybody tells me different, I’m only committed to Albion and I’m only thinking about getting in this team. It’s a great club and I’m proud to be captain.”
