Lucas Perez set to STAY at Arsenal with Arsene Wenger unable to agree fee for his return to Deportivo

LUCAS PEREZ could STAY at Arsenal after the North London club were unable to agree a fee over a return to Deportivo.

Depor offered the 28-year-old a loan plus wages deal to return to the club the Gunners bought him from a year ago.

It is understood the La Liga club offered £3million for the loan deal, but that proved not to be enough.

Arsenal also have loan agreement in place with Levante, but Perez prefers the option of Deportivo, as he chases a place in the Spain squad for next summer's World Cup in Russia.

According to Press Association reporter Mark Mann-Bryans, Wenger might not be able to let Perez leave.

He tweeted: "With all the impending departures from #AFC - looks increasingly like Lucas Perez may end up staying as a deal with Depor still not close."

He has not featured for Arsenal this season, a year after they bagged him for £17m.

Perez netted seven times for the Gunners last term, including a hat trick in their 4-1 trouncing of Basel in Switzerland.

But he struggled to get a consistent run of goals in the Premier League, and his last goal for Arsene Wenger's side came in the win at Sutton United in the FA Cup.

And with the arrival of £52m Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, Perez's first-team opportunities look limited.

Deportivo finished 16th in La Liga last term, while Levante were promoted back to the top flight after winning the Segunda Division.

Arsenal also look set to lose Alexis Sanchez, who has been granted leave from international duty, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks set to join Chelsea.

Wenger could make another bid for unwanted PSG attacker Julian Draxler though.
