Joel Robles ready to quit Everton and will even drop to Championship for first-team football
Frustrated goalkeeper wants out of Goodison Park in order of first-team football but Jordan Pickford's injury setback may scupper his chances of exit
JOEL ROBLES is ready to quit Everton and look for a fresh start away from Goodison.
Spanish shotstopper Robles is down the pecking order with the signing of Jordan Pickford and looking for a pay off.
Robles is keen to stay in England and would even drop to the Championship for regular football.
However, his chances of securing a move before this week’s transfer window took a dent due to No1 Jordan Pickford’s injury.
The 23-year-old, signed from Sunderland in the summer, has withdrawn from the England squad.
He sustained a muscular injury in the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday.
Pickford will now miss the World Cup qualifiers against Mata and Slovakia.
A Football Association statement read: “Having reported to St George’s Park on Sunday evening, the 23-year-old underwent an assessment on a muscle injury sustained playing for his club.
LATEST EVERTON TRANSFER NEWS
“After discussions between England and Everton medics, it was decided it was in the player’s best interests to return to Finch Farm for further treatment.”
Despite his knock not being believed to be too serious, manager Ronlad Koeman is unlikely to sanction the departure of his stopper.
There has been speculation that Robles was interesting a number of La Liga outfits.
Deportivo La Coruna were said to be leading the race for the goalkeeper’s signature.
