Watford chief Marco Silva is poised to raid his ex-club Sporting Lisbon for £3m defender Marvin Zeegelaar
Watford boss Marco Silva is set to raid former club Sporting Lisbon for £3million Dutch defender Marvin Zeegelaar.
The Portuguese coach tried to sign the left-back for Hull City last season.
He now wants Amsterdam-born Zeegelaar to strengthen a problem position in the Hornets' squad - after missing out on Kieran Gibbs.
Zeegelaar, 27, had a spell in the Championship on loan to Blackpool from Turkish club Elazigspor in 2013.
He began his career with Ajax, and has also played for Espanyol and Portugal's Rio Ave before joining Sporting in 2016.
Zeegelaar is under contract until 2019 but has not figured for the Primeira Liga club this season and will be allowed to leave.
Silva's determination to strengthen his squad will have been eased a little by their solid and unbeaten start to the season.
A 2-0 win at Bournemouth has been sandwiched by home draws with Liverpool and Brighton.
