His departure from the Emirates has led Arsene Wenger to move swiftly for the Monaco star as a replacement.

City currently have a delegation in Chile - where former Barcelona man Sanchez is on international duty.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague said on Twitter: "Alexis close to sign for City for £55 + £5. Arsenal asked for few hours to sign Thomas Lemar, which they confident they are going to do."

While Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol also backed the news, tweeting: "Man City second bid for Alexis Sanchez is £55m plus £5m in add ons. We're also told Arsenal are back in for Thomas Lemar from Monaco."

Liverpool have been vying to bring  21-year-old Lemar to Anfield, with Le10Sport claiming the two clubs are close to agreeing a fee.

But according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have launched a whopping £90million offer for his services.

Earlier on in the week, City had a £50m bid rebuffed by the North London side for Sanchez, with Arsenal hoping for Raheem Sterling to be included in any deal.

But Guardiola refused to give away Sterling, as he sees him as a vital player in his side.

In a series of tweets, Balague added: "More detail on Sterling. When he heard he could be part of swap deal for Alexis, he rang Pep and was told City did not doubt for a second.

"Sterling was told he is fundamental for City and Arsenal were told they were not interested in including him in any deal."

Monaco have consistently stated that Lemar is not for sale, however it appears that they have caved in, with Wenger winning the race to sign him.

Liverpool officials flew out to Monaco yesterday as they looked to thrash out a deal in the region of £74m for Lemar, with Divock Origi included in the bid.

It was reported earlier today that Wenger had opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the sale of Julian Draxler.

But it looks like Arsenal are now going all out for Lemar as they look to shatter their record transfer yet again this summer.

Liverpool confirmed the £40m signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain earlier today, with the Gunners set to splash the cash from his and Sanchez's impending sale.
