However, the player had his heart set on a switch to his former employers and has got his wish.

Although Arsenal were hoping to sell Perez permanently, they have decided to shift him out for the rest of the campaign in order to free up wages as they attempt to bring in some last-minute recruits.

The Gunners had been demanding £13million for the striker who they bought from Deportivo for £17m last summer.

There is expected to be a figure agreed to make the move permanent next summer.

Perez failed to impress during his maiden campaign in the Premier League.

He only started four times after Christmas in his debut season.

And he has not started a game since the FA Cup win at Sutton in February.

Perez’s last appearance for the club came way back in March when he came off the bench against Lincoln in quarter-final.

Arsenal wanted a fee at least over the £10m mark but have now changed their stance and allowed him a temporary switch.

Both Valencia and Marseille had also shown interest in the attacker but he was adamant he wanted to go back to Deportivo.

The La Liga outfit are believed to have paid Arsene Wenger's side a loan fee of around £4m.
