Ravel Morrison joins FC Atlas from Lazio on season-long loan deal as ex-Manchester United flop seeks fresh start in Mexico

Troubled ex-England U21s midfielder leaves Lazio for season-long switch as he bids to revive career in Central America

MANCHESTER UNITED flop Ravel Morrison has completed a bizarre loan move to Mexican side FC Atlas.

The Englishman has joined the Central American side for one season after failing to make an impression at Lazio.

Morrison is now one of the highest-paid players in the Mexican league.

And the 24-year-old will be hoping it’s the right place to revive his career after disappearing into the wilderness in recent years.

Morrison made just five appearances while on loan at QPR last season and only managed eight at Lazio following a move to Italy in 2015.

Spells at Cardiff, Birmingham and an earlier stint at QPR failed to bring success following disappointment at West Ham.

But Morrison’s time at Manchester United remains his most memorable, with the midfielder gaining a ‘wild child’ reputation before being cut loose in 2012.

SunSport revealed a few days ago that FC Atlas were looking to hand Morrison another chance.

And should he shine while abroad, the former England U21s star could yet have a future back in the Premier League.

Describing Morrison as one of United’s top youth products, former teammate Jesse Lingard said: “Even at 18, nobody could tackle him and he scored goals and produced skills you shouldn’t be able to at that age.

“In the Youth Cup, every one of his performances was above 8/10. You knew he’d be a top player.”
