BARK IN FOR ROSS

Tottenham will move for Ross Barkley in January after Everton midfielder snubbed Chelsea on deadline day

It is believed the 23-year-old changed his mind about moving to Stamford Bridge at the last minute on a hectic day in West London

TOTTENHAM are plotting a January transfer swoop for Ross Barkley - meaning they could trump Chelsea to ANOTHER signing.

The Everton midfielder decided at the last minute to turn down a move to join up with Antonio Conte's champions and stay on Merseyside.

It means his future will likely be up in the air once again when the transfer window re-opens, and the Evening Standard reports that Spurs will look at securing a deal for him then.

Should they manage to bag the England international, it would be another bitter pill for Chelsea to swallow after their London rivals beat them to the signature of Swansea striker Fernando Llorente.

The North London side confirmed the Spaniard’s arrival just minutes before the summer transfer window slammed shut on Thursday.

The 32-year-old penned a two-year contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side after passing a medical.

Llorente has been a long-term target of Blues boss Conte but he has been pipped at the post again by the London rivals.

And Barkley could be the next player set to snub the champions in favour of a Premier League rival.

SunSport reported this morning how Barkley rejected the chance to join Chelsea by changing his mind after the medical.

The wantaway Everton ace looked set to sign on the dotted line after Chelsea had agreed a £35million fee with the Toffees.

Barkley had already agreed personal terms to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.

But after arriving at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground, Barkley dramatically U-turned on his decision to sign for the Premier League champions, according to Everton owner Farhad Moshiri.

Moshiri told Sky Sports News: “The clubs agreed a deal of £35 million. And I think personal terms were agreed and after the medical we had heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley’s agent that the player had changed his mind.

“And he wanted to reconsider his position during the January transfer window. That is the latest we have been advised.

"He is currently injured so technically he will be with us because he is under contract for another year.

“So I think it is a bit surprising but that is football.”
