Nemanja Matic, Mohamed Salah and Renato Sanches: The ten best signings of the transfer window by Football Whispers
Football Whispers bring us their take on all the transfer action from this summer's thrilling window of big-money signings
The summer transfer window has finally closed, and Premier League spending has, once again, been at an all-time high.
We’ve also seen some major deals around the continent, with Paris Saint-Germain’s £198million capture of Neymar accelerating the market’s inflation.
In amongst all the hype and the extortionate deals, several clubs have proven that it is still possible to find value in the market.
Our friends at Football Whispers have picked out the 10 best deals of the transfer window.
Bernardo Silva – Monaco to Manchester City
Most Read In Sport
Price: £43million
As one of the standout stars of Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph and run to the Champions League semi-final last season, Silva was set to be one of the hottest properties on the market this summer.
Linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, City moved quickly to wrap up a deal for the Portuguese attacker in June, securing his services at what now looks like a bargain price.
Nemanja Matic – Chelsea to Manchester United
Price: £40million
Not everyone was convinced by United’s signing of Matic, with many fans feeling that Fabinho of Monaco was a better fit for the defensive midfield role in Jose Mourinho’s side.
But any doubters have been silenced by the 29-year-old Serbian’s performances since the season began. Antonio Conte has bemoaned the fact that Chelsea allowed Matic to join a rival, whose presence will allow Paul Pogba to shine.
Leonardo Bonucci – Juventus to AC Milan
Price: £40million
In one of the shock transfers of the window, big-spending Milan managed to prise Bonucci away from Juventus for the relatively low fee of £40million, with the centre-back having fallen out with manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Snaring arguably the best defender in the world is a huge statement of intent from the San Siro club, who will be hoping their 11 new additions will fire them back into the Champions League.
Mohamed Salah – Roma to Liverpool
🚨EXCLUSIVE OFFER: England now 33/1 beat Malta🚨
YOU won't want to miss out on this one
Sun Bets are offering all new customers a huge 33/1 on England to beat Malta.
Price: £37million
After a difficult spell with Chelsea earlier in his career, where first-team chances were hard to come by, Salah shone in Italy for Fiorentina and Roma, encouraging Liverpool to splash £37million to bring him back to England.
The flying Egyptian winger has hit the ground running at Anfield, making the Reds’ already potent attack absolutely frightening.
Keita Balde Diao – Lazio to Monaco
Price: £27million
Monaco lost teenage superstar Kylian Mbappe on deadline day, the French international joining PSG on loan ahead of a £166million transfer next summer. But the Ligue 1 champions had already secured the ideal replacement.
Wanted by Juventus and Inter Milan, Monaco snapped up Keita Balde, whose pace, dribbling ability and cool finishing technique will fill the Mbappe void at the Stade Louis II.
Renato Sanches – Bayern Munich to Swansea City
Loan
Things may not have gone exactly to plan for Renato Sanches at Bayern Munich, starting just six times in his maiden Bundesliga campaign, but there was interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs in the 20-year-old this summer.
It was Swansea, though, who surprisingly secured his services on loan on deadline day, where he will have the opportunity to link up with former Bayern assistant manager Paul Clement.
Romelu Lukaku – Everton to Manchester United
Price: £75million
When United pipped Chelsea to sign Lukaku from Everton for £75million earlier this summer, it seemed the Red Devils might have paid a little over the odds for the Belgian striker.
But three goals in three Premier League games and another in the UEFA Super Cup shows how the 24-year-old has settled into his new surroundings and immediately transformed the Red Devils’ previously stagnant attack.
Youri Tielemans – Anderlecht to Monaco
Price: £23million
Tracked for several years by a host of Europe’s elite sides, Monaco’s capture of 20-year-old playmaker Tielemans is a huge coup, especially as they only forked out £23million to sign him from Anderlecht.
Already a full Belgian international, the technically able midfielder scored 18 goals from the centre of the park last season and will look to carry his fine form into Monaco’s Ligue 1 title defence.
Grzegorz Krychowiak – Paris Saint-Germain to West Bromwich Albion
Loan
When Krychowiak moved to PSG from Sevilla for £27million last summer, fresh off the back of winning a second Europa League title with the Spanish club, he was regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.
The Polish star was unable to make the anticipated impact at the Parc des Princes, but PSG’s loss in West Brom’s gain. The Baggies will be getting a player of very high quality and with bags of top-level experience.
Roque Mesa – Las Palmas to Swansea City
Price: £11million
Key to Las Palmas rise from the Spanish second flight to becoming an established force in La Liga over the last two years, Mesa was one of the best players in Spain outside of the country’s traditional big hitters.
The fact that Swansea have picked up the 28-year-old pass master for just £11million shows that value can still be found in this grossly inflated transfer market.
