Liverpool star Nathaniel Clyne out for THREE months with back injury as Jurgen Klopp confirms huge blow for his title hopefuls
England right-back is yet to feature for Reds this season and looks certain to miss out on Champions League group stage
LIVERPOOL star Nathaniel Clyne is set to be sidelined for THREE months with a back injury.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed the blow today via the club's official website.
And it means Clyne is unlikely to feature at all in the Champions League group stage, with his position now up for grabs in the starting XI.
Clyne’s last appearance came in the pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers nearly two months ago.
And he is now working hard to ensure he’s back in time for the Christmas period after being left out of Liverpool’s squad for Europe.
However, Clyne can be registered at the start of 2018 – providing he’s fit and Liverpool have qualified for the knockout rounds.
Boss Klopp confirmed: “Nathaniel is working hard on his rehab and we have kept a close eye on his progress, but the reality is we are looking at some time still before he is back and available for selection.
“I am told it will be longer than just a couple of weeks, so we will continue to monitor and assess.

“It is pretty certain he’ll not be available for the majority of the Champions League group matches. If we are fortunate enough to still be in UEFA competition in the New Year he could be added to the squad then.
“The medical guys are pleased with how he is responding and Nathaniel has shown a really strong attitude, given he is not someone who is used to being out injured.
“What is positive for us is how Joe [Gomez] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] have stepped up and grasped their opportunities.”
