'I used to mutter 'f*** off'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher drove team-mate Luis Garcia to see sports psychologist after constant on-pitch instructions

The ex-England defender was also left speechless by the Spaniard's hair and beauty regime at Anfield

LIVERPOOL hero Luis Garcia needed a sports psychologist to help him block out Jamie Carragher’s screaming.

The Spanish star – still a Kop icon for his goal against Chelsea in the semi-final of the 2005 Champions League win – used to swear at the defender on the sly when his instructions got too much.

Anfield hero Carra was an old-school force on the pitch before taking his talking into the Sky studio.

But it all got a bit too much for Garcia who used to lose concentration because of the bellowing in his ear.

Garcia told FourFourTwo: “Carra would give me a lot of instruction out on the pitch.

“I used to mutter 'f*** off' under my breath when he yelled at me.

“Actually, I had to work with a sports psychologist to help me focus while I was at Liverpool and one of the things we worked on was trying to block out Carragher's voice!

“I'd still listen to him, but soon I didn't get as distracted by it.”

Scouser Carragher was the last of a dying breed to leave the club when he hung up his boots and it sounds like he struggled to handle some of the cultural changes foreign players brought.

The centre-back and former manager Rafa Benitez were stunned when Garcia, Harry Kewell and Milan Baros would prepare their hair before matches with Alice bands and sprays.

But motor-mouth Carragher was lost for words when he saw the posers preening before crucial Premier League matches.

Garcia said: “He didn't need to say anything because his expression just screamed 'What the f**k?'”

“Rafa wasn't too happy either. One day there was myself, Harry Kewell and Milan Baros all standing in front of the mirror, putting on our hair bands.

“Baros was using his hairspray as well! That didn't go down well either, with Carra or Rafa.”
