Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher reveals he cannot wish Jose Enrique a happy retirement as he has blocked him on Twitter

Former Reds defender has no time for the Anfield legend after coming under fire from him earlier in his career

JAMIE CARRAGHER revealed he has been BLOCKED by former Liverpool team-mate Jose Enrique in the wake of his retirement.

Enrique, just 31, called it a day having been hampered by a knee injury.

Reds legend Carragher played alongside the Spaniard for two seasons at Anfield.

But the Sky Sports pundit, 39, was unable to pass on any wishes.

Liverpool's official Twitter account posted a clip of one of Enrique's two goals for the club, captioned: "Best wishes to former Red @Jesanchez3, who announced his retirement from football today."

To which Carragher replied: "Can't even wish him all the best in the future," sharing a screenshot proving the ex-Newcastle ace had blocked him on the social media website.

Enrique, replying to Liverpool's post after Carragher, wrote: "Thanks for everything. I'm so proud to say that I've been able to play for the best club in the world.

"So many great memories that I will never forget. I will always hold Liverpool close to my heart #YNWA"

But his sentiments were lost on fans, with users urging him to forget his feud with Kop icon Carragher.

Carragher hit out at Enrique in 2015 when the full-back, who earned £65,000-a-week at Liverpool, moaned he was alienated by former boss Brendan Rodgers.

In his Daily Mail column, he wrote: "Enrique, who has played just 12 Premier League games in the past two seasons having been the club’s first-choice left back in the previous two campaigns, said he wanted to fight for his place. He added that he had looked to Spain for a move but economic conditions make it difficult.

"That translates as: I’m staying because no-one in Spain can afford me and I don’t care if I don’t play (just like last season) because I’m waiting to go on a free next summer when my contract expires.

"I am sure there are clubs in England or Spain who would want him for less money. It is about whether he really has the hunger to play even if it means a pay cut."

Enrique was signed by then-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish from Newcastle for £6million in 2011.

Injuries limited his Reds appearances to 99 in five years.

On his retirement, he explained: "Sometimes I got dizzy in training, I was on so much medication."

Enrique continued: "After every game my knee swelled like a ball and I was barely able to walk for three days. Something that was supposed to be for three months ended up turning into two years.

"I saw five doctors in England but they did not get the problem. It hurts me, but so many times they told me it was a psychological problem I came to believe it."

Enrique joined Real Zaragoza last September having been released from Liverpool when his contract expired in May 2016.
