Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain mocked on Twitter after starting on bench for Liverpool’s clash against Manchester City

Former Arsenal star moved to Anfield for more playing time in a position he prefers but got neither straight away at the Etihad

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN was mocked on Twitter after being picked on the bench for Liverpool's clash against Manchester City.

The former Arsenal star completed a £35million move to Anfield during the last transfer window.

And he wants to go on and emulate club legend Steven Gerrard.

But to do so he'll have to actually start more games and not be selected on the bench by boss Jurgen Klopp.

And fans - including a number of Gunners supporters - were quick to mock the Ox after his first team selection under the German.

One said: "Correct! Oxlade-Chamberlain is on the bench where he belongs."

Another posted: "Oxlade-Chamberlain moved as he thought he would get more game time. Starts on the bench."

A fellow Twitter user wrote: "Oxlade-Chamberlain on the bench - nothing new there then."

Another said: "Oxlade-Chamberlain getting some great bench experience to add to his CV."

Oxlade-Chamberlain did come on in the second half as a replacement for Mo Salah - after Sadio Mane was sent off for booting City keeper Ederson in the face.

The Ox's last game in an Arsenal shirt was the 4-0 drubbing at Liverpool.
