Ederson was on the floor at least five minutes receiving medical attention before being stretchered off.

He left the pitch to an applause from inside the Etihad stadium while receiving oxygen with a stud gash to the side of his eye and blood around his chin.

Mane caught Ederson in the face with his boot after a 50/50 challenge and was immediately shown the red card a day after being awarded the league's Player of the Month for August.

Though that has divided fans and the football world as to whether he deserved the straight red.

Fifa laws of the game for this season contains the following entry: "Serious foul play - a tackle or challenge that endangers the safetyof an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Fans reacted on twitter, many saying he didn't deserve to be sent off.

Ederson was taken to the medical institute at City's training ground rather than to hospital where he will be assessed for fractures.

He doesn't have a concussion.
