Leicester splashed out £22million to Sporting Lisbon for the 28-year-old international.

But the Premier League outfit missed the extended transfer deadline by 14 seconds - making him ineligible to play until January.

Craig Shakespeare revealed on Friday that the ace is not even allowed to train with his men as they still await clearance from Fifa for the deal.

The red tape forced him to miss out on the visit of Chelsea as his new employers continue to plead their case to the authorities.

Shakespeare said: "We’re all asking that question.

"It is World Cup year for the player and he is in limbo. He is a strong character and I am sure he’ll be fine."
