De Boer said: “I’m always fighting to get to where I want to go. I will do that to the last second I’m here —  hopefully for a lot of years to come.

"But they never can say after ‘Yeah, he didn’t do enough’.

“I know I can always look in the  mirror and know I did everything to get the best results for the club and team.”

The Dutchman, who lasted just 85 days at Inter Milan, admitted when chairman Steve Parish brought him to Selhurst he may be gone by Christmas.

But his position is now under threat after three defeats.

He said: “I shrug it off. What can I do with it? I can have a headache from it, or put my energy in more important things and getting the results we want.

“I’m thinking only about what I have an influence on, and that’s here on the training ground, and what they show on the pitch on Saturday or Sunday.”

He said: “Sean’s a very respected manager and he’s very happy at Burnley.
