However, the Premier League side held firm and rebuffed all offers for their playmaker.

Spanish outlet Sport claim Barca will go back in for the 25-year-old Brazilian in January to boost the second half of their La Liga and Champions League campaigns.

Coutinho has not featured for Liverpool this season due to a back injury.

But earlier this month he played and scored for Brazil in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win against Ecuador.

He was expected to part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad to face Manchester City last weekend at the Etihad.

Despte his heroics in South America, Klopp did not think his playmaker was fit enough to take part in the defeat at City.

Barca top brass have come under huge criticism for what has been sen in Spain as a disastrous summer transfer dealings after failing with Coutinho and Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria.

Barca have been desperate to bring in new recruits after seeing Neymar leave the club to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee.

However, with both respective teams refusing to sanction transfers, Barcelona bosses’ failings were highlighted in the press.

Catalan news outlets Sport and Mundo Deportivo showed no mercy in their slamming of the four-time Champions League winners.

Mundo Deportivo, whose headline read: “Couti-no”, ran an exclusive on the Coutinho saga, saying talks for the Brazilian reached an impasse after Liverpool demanded £146.5m.
