And after spending last season with Bournemouth, he has opted to remain in North London to try and salvage his career with the club.

That is the claim from the Evening Standard, who say that Arsene Wenger was prepared to let the 25-year-old depart this summer.

Sunsport exclusively revealed that the Turkish side were willing to offer the midfielder an opportunity to showcase his talents and help build himself up back to full fitness.

But after assessing all his options, Wilshere decided that he was ready to fight for his Emirates future in the capital.

Trabzonspor boss Muharrem Usta told Turkish Football: "I held direct talks with Jack Wilshere.

"We wanted him on loan and were close to a deal but the move stalled at the last moment."

Fellow Turkish side Antalyaspor and Premier League duo Newcastle and Swansea were also keen on the ace.

Arsenal were looking for an upfront fee of £15m to sign Wilshere permanently.

Or at least figure of around the £2m Bournemouth paid to take him on loan a year ago.

The star did his chances of breaking into Wenger's starting XI no good when red mist descended and he received his marching orders for the club's Under-23s last month against Manchester City.

However, he is expected to be given an opportunity to impress against Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday.

Alexis Sanchez, who is also in the last year of his contract, is also expected to start.
