  • This is the first ever competitive encounter between Olympiakos and Sporting.
  • Olympiakos have won all four of their home games in the Champions League against
    Portuguese opposition, all by a one-goal margin.
  • Meanwhile, Sporting’s only previous encounter with a Greek club saw them win 4-1 at
    home against Panionios in the UEFA Cup in November 2004.
  • Olympiakos are making their 18th appearance in the Champions League, that’s twice as
    many as any other Greek side (Panathinakos, 9). Their best performance came in 1998/99
    when they reached the quarter finals.
  • Olympiakos have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League only once in

  • Sporting are Seydou Doumbia’s third club in the Champions League after CSKA Moscow
    and Basel. With 14 goals, he’s the second most prolific Ivorian in the competition after
    Didier Drogba (44).
  • Sporting manager Jorge Jesus has taken charge of 40 games in the Champions League,
    the second-most for a Portuguese manager after Jose Mourinho (133). His best
    performance dates back to 2011/12 when he reached the quarter finals with Benfica.
