Vertonghen received a second yellow card after his arm caught Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze in the face and left him in a pile on the floor spitting blood.

And now Bild are reporting that the World Cup winner will need dental work after his teeth were moved out of place.

The German club's coach Peter Bosz said: "Mario has a problem with his teeth, and will need to go to the dentist.

"It does not look good for him. Some of his teeth are no longer in their proper places.

"It is painful simply for me to talk about it."

Vertonghen blasted ref Gianluca Rocchi's decision to send him off, claiming the clash was an accident.

The 30-year-old fumed: "I thought it was the wrong decision by the referee. Even Dortmund's players were surprised.

"Somebody ran into my arm, yet I got a red card. I had absolutely no intention to hit my opponent.

"It wasn't a blemish on the game for me. I feel positive about the whole match.

"This was maybe the most important fixture in our group, and we have won it. We defended well.

"Maybe we did not have the best of things, but we could count on Harry Kane. He had a great game."

Kane scored twice at Wembley after Andriy Yarmolenko cancelled out Son Heung-min's early opener.
