Manchester United snap up 15-year-old Coventry starlet Charlie McCann
The midfielder has turned down rivals City to join the Red Devils, who he supported as a youngster
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has snapped-up Coventry wonderkid Charlie McCann.
The 15-year-old midfielder has turned down rivals City to join the Red Devils, who he supported as a youngster.
Last week United landed Spanish prodigy Arnau Puigmal from Espanyol, having already picked up youngsters Aliou Badara Traore and Ethan Galbraith.
Now they have pounced for McCann, who was called up the England Under-16 squad earlier this summer.
Sky Blues have reluctantly agreed to let one of the brightest academy stars leave.
And his parents told the East Midlands club that he would only have left them for Old Trafford.
The Coventry-born kid has been with his hometown club since the age of seven.
Academy boss Rich Stevens said: "When a big football club come knocking, and it is the club that Charlie supports, you must let him go and have that experience.

"We did not want to sell him, we did not need a fee for him even though there was a fee involved.
"Charlie goes with complete support from me and the rest of the staff from the Academy.
"He has been unbelievable for us, even making his England debut back in August.
"We will keep an eye on him and be here if he needs us. His parents told me that if it would have been any other club it would have been a firm no.
"But when it is the club that Charlie supports, that is football. Charlie goes with our full support."
