In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: "Officers responded to reports of disorder at the Emirates Stadium earlier this evening where fans gathered for the Arsenal vs FC Koln match.

"A policing plan is in place for the game and additional officers were deployed.

"Four people have been arrested on suspicion of public order offences."

Up to 20,000 Cologne fans turned up for the European encounter, with only 2,900 seats allocated for the away side.

It has been revealed that Koln supporters donned Arsenal jerseys to sneak into the Emirates, before taking off their top to reveal their true colours as they claimed the lower tier.

They had earlier brought Oxford Street to a standstill as they marched towards the 60,000-seater.

Police officers and dogs had to be intervene inside the ground to diffuse the hostile atmosphere.

And the Germans raced into an early lead when Jhon Cordoba netted a sensational 45-yard strike after a poor David Ospina clearance.

However Arsenal fans finally had something to cheer about when they ran riot in the second half.

A scorching volley from Sead Kolasinac, a sumptuous strike from Alexis Sanchez and a tap-in from Hector Bellerin ensured all three points.
