Graeme Souness labels David Luiz’s challenge as a leg breaker which Arsene Wenger thought was carried out with ‘excessive force’

David Luiz carried out a late challenge on Arsenal's Sead Kolasinac that saw him sent off in the 87th minute

DAVID LUIZ was sent for an early shower in today's London clash after a late challenge on Sead Kolasinac, a tackle which Arsene Wenger thought used 'excessive force'.

The derby remained a goalless draw, but the talking point was David Luiz's behaviour during the game.

The defender attempted an overhead kick in the crowded box,  a late high tackle and was then caught laughing at the decision to send him off.

Luiz seemed to be harbouring a feud with Arsenal defender Kolisanic in the second half which culminated in his sending off.

The punishment means the central defender will miss Nottingham Forest in the EFL cup, Stoke City away and the crucial home game clash with Manchester City on September 30.

Social media reacted to the sending off, as did the  punditry team with Graeme Souness labelling the challenge a 'leg breaker'.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry agreed that it was a red, he said: "He's upset with Sanchez and forgets to play football. He takes his frustration out on Kolasinac. That is a red."

Wenger himself thought the tackle was excessive, he said: "I think even Luiz will accept with a bit of distance that he went in a bit strong."

Earlier in the game, David Luiz had attempted an overhead kick in the box, which also left pundits divided as to whether it was a dangerous move to attempt with so many bodies in the box.
