Treble kings

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero hit his sixth hat-trick at Watford but still behind Alan Shearer Premier League record of 11

City forward is in good company with Thierry Henry, Robbie Fowler and Micheal Owen also ahead of him but Harry Kane in less than four years has six league trebles

SERGIO AGUERO bagged his sixth Premier League hat-trick as Manchester City ran riot against Watford on Saturday.

The Argentine striker opened the scoring on 27 minutes, heading in Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick, then four minutes later tapped in David Silva’s cross from close range.

And on 81 minutes completed his treble with a fabulous solo effort.

Aguero has an impressive 127 Premier League goals in 186 appearances for City, despite speculation his boss Pep Guardiola was ready to offload the forward in the summer.

The City forward is among the Premier League's deadliest hitmen when it comes to hitting top flight trebles.

LUIS SUAREZ

The controversial Uruguayan striker joined Liverpool in 2010 and in his three-and-a-half years in England scored 69 goals in 110 appearances.

Suarez took some time to get going in England scoring just four during the 2011, after joining during the winter Transfer Window.

But in three incredible seasons when he wasn’t biting or racial abusing players, he hit six hat-tricks in three seasons averaging two per campaign.

WAYNE ROONEY

The Everton striker moved to Old Trafford in 2004 and hit a Champions League hat-trick on his debut against Fenerbahce.

Rooney would go on to score 198 league goals for United and hitting six trebles and it took the forward three years to score his first Premier League treble at Bolton in 2006.

You have to go as far back as 2011 and that famous 8-2 demolition of Arsenal for the last Rooney hat-trick in the league.

HARRY KANE

The Spurs striker’s numbers are impressive to say the least.

England’s No 9 has wasted no time in hitting a staggering six league hat-tricks in three full league campaigns.

Kane smashed his first treble against Leicester in March 2015 and has gone on to hit another five in the League.

The 24-year-old was on fire last season hitting trebles against West Brom, Stoke, Hull and four against Leicester.

MICHAEL OWEN

Despite the latter part of his career being dogged by injuries, the former England striker hit 150 league goals in 326 appearances in the English top flight.

Owen scored an impressive eight hat-tricks with seven of them coming for Liverpool and one for Newcastle against West Ham in 2005.

Owen hit his first ever league treble at Sheffield Wednesday in February 1998 in a 3-3 draw.

THIERRY HENRY

It took the Frenchman a while to find his Premier League feet, but once he got going, he was unstoppable.

The Arsenal forward's ten years in England saw him hit 175 goals in 258 league outings for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Henry scored eight league hat-tricks for Arsenal and his opening treble was against Leicester City in 2001 at Highbury.

The Frenchman averaged less than one treble a season for the Gunners, and his final hat-trick was in the 7-0 hammering of Middlesbrough.

He also scored the final ever treble at Highbury in the win against Wigan.

ROBBIE FOWLER

Fowler bust on to the scene in 1995 hitting two hat-tricks against Bolton and Arsenal.

The local hero went on to score 163 league goals in 379 games — and his last hat-trick for the Kop was at Leicester in 2001.

Fowler had to change clubs for his next treble – that was for Leeds United when they beat Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

An impressive eight hat-tricks in just over ten years with seven of them coming in one incredible spell at Liverpool.

ALAN SHEARER

But no one comes close to Alan Shearer with eleven hat-tricks in the Premier League.

Shearer scored 260 in 441 Premier League appearances for Blackburn and Newcastle over fourteen years and hit his first treble in 1993 at Leeds United.

Despite a longer spell of fourteen years in the Premier League, statistically Shearer’s 11 trebles over that period are hugely impressive and when you consider the Toon were not competitive in his final years at St James' Park.

In terms of age and where they are in their careers, Kane already has six trebles and with his best years ahead of him, surely only in injury or a move abroad will stop the Spurs man eclipsing Shearer.
