Carlos Tevez was waste of money and has ‘not met club’s expectations’ admits Shanghai Shenhua chairman
Tevez has struggled to impress in the Far East since his move form Boca Juniors in December with just three goals in thirteen games
CARLOS TEVEZ has flopped in China, according to Shanghai Shenhua chairman Wu Xiaohui as his club continue to struggle in the Chinese Super League.
The former Manchester United and City hitman who earns an eye watering £650,000-a-week has failed to live up to his billing since his arrival from Boca Juniors last December.
Tevez, 33 came off the bench to score his side’s consolation goals in a humiliating defeat to local rivals Shanghai SIPG on Saturday.
That was just his third goal in 13 games for Shenhua who are eleventh in the China Super League.
The Argentine striker who has won league titles in England, Italy and Argentina has struggled for form and fitness in the Far East and Wu has been underwhelmed by his marquee addition.
Wu told Shanghai TV: “Our intention was to bring in an influential star player with high quality, and we all think Tevez could fit the bill.
“However, due to a lack of winter training and match fitness, he didn't meet our expectations.”
Tevez has only recently returned to action following a troublesome calf injury, with Shenhua losing all four of their league fixtures so far this season.
