Manchester City star David Silva reveals his heartbreak over Gran Canaria as raging forest fires rip through his native land
DAVID SILVA has revealed his heartbreak after forest fires ripped through his home town of Gran Canaria.
400 people have been forced to leave their homes on the holiday island popular with Brits.
A level 2 emergency has been declared, with the fire already eating up 1,000 hectares due to strong winds.
And many roads on the island have been closed as displaced families are moved into social centres.
There appears to be no end in sight as aircraft carrying water fly overhead in an effort to extinguish the flames.
And Manchester City star Silva has now taken to Twitter in a bid to express his sadness at the situation.
The playmaker said: “A lot of strength to the devices that are trying to extinguish the fire on my island.
“Things like that should never happen! I encourage people.”

Meanwhile, plumes of black smoke continue to engulf Gran Canaria, which welcomes more than four million tourists a year.
The Tejeda Parador hotel was evacuated as flames surrounded the tall building.
And the Mayor of the town has described the fire as “incredible”, with the “very aggressive” flames in danger of spreading over “several thousand more hectares.”
