Manchester City ace John Stones bizarrely congratulates Alvaro Morata and Chelsea on Instagram… thanks to PR blunder

Social media post was initially meant for Gary Cahill's page - as the two England defenders have the same representation

MANCHESTER CITY star John Stones bizarrely congratulated Chelsea and Alvaro Morata on Instagram on Saturday evening... thanks to an incredible PR blunder.

Earlier in the day, Pep Guardiola's City thumped Roy Hodgson's hapless Crystal Palace 5-0, while the Blues stormed to a 4-0 win away to Stoke.

Spanish star Morata netted a sublime hat-trick at the bet365 Stadium to rip through Mark Hughes' Potters.

But incredibly, it was Premier League rival Stones who took to social media to pat Morata and Chelsea on the back.

A post on Stones' Instagram page read: "Great win today and congratulations @alvaromorata on his hattrick! #CFC"

However, it's not all as it seems - as it would appear the congratulatory post was in fact meant for Gary Cahill's Instagram.

Not only would it make a lot more sense for the Stamford Bridge club captain to be giving his side a gee-up, but also, both Stones and Cahill have the same public relations team.

It's no great secret football stars often have their social media pages managed by someone else.

After all, how often do you stumble across a sponsorship-based post from a star that begins: "Say something like..."

Yet this will go down as one of the biggest blunders in the PR firm's history.

Cahill and Stones are both set to be named in Gareth Southgate's next England squad - set to be unveiled next week - and are almost certainties for the 2018 World Cup.
