West Ham scouts were in attendance last week at the San Siro to run the rule over the 23-year-old defender in the defeat at Milan on Wednesday.

The former Italy under-21 international is playing in his first season in Serie A after helping SPAL secure promotion last season.

The East London side are no strangers to taking young defenders from the Italian top flight.

They signed Italian international Angelo Ogbonna from Juventus in 2015 for around £10million.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic watched on as his side conceded another three goals in the defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday.

That’s 13 goals conceded already in just six games and only rock bottom Crystal Palace have let in as many so far.
